Find the answers to your questions
Insurance doesn't have to be complicated.
Yes--provided you purchased your trip (either fully or partially) and obtained Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage before the situation became publicly known.
The event (or the risk of it occurring) is considered publicly known from the moment it is announced in the media. Therefore, Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage will not apply in the following situations:
- If a new travel insurance contract is purchased, or if a trip is paid for (fully or partially) on or after the date of the media announcement.
- If a trip covered by the Annual Multi-Trip product is purchased (fully or partially) on or after the date of the media announcement.
Blue Cross travel insurance that includes Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage, purchased and effective before October 8, 2023, may cover the interruption of your trip and your return flight.
If you purchased Blue Cross travel insurance on or after October 8, 2023, i.e., after the government advisory was issued, you cannot claim for the interruption of your trip since the situation was already known when you purchased insurance.
While Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage excludes acts of war and civil unrest, we understand Israel's sudden and unexpected situation.
We are therefore temporarily lifting this exclusion from our Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage for contracts purchased before the government advisory was issued.
If your trip to Israel and your Blue Cross travel insurance including Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage were purchased before October 8, 2023, you may claim cancellation of this trip.
If your trip to Israel and your Blue Cross travel insurance were purchased on or after October 8, 2023, i.e., after the government advisory was issued, you cannot claim cancellation of this trip since the situation was known at the time you purchased your insurance.
Do you have any questions about Israel's current situation? Please contact our Customer Relations Centre at 1-888-822-5383 with any questions. As always, we will support you and recommend that you remain vigilant.
To file a claim for a trip to another Middle Eastern country, a government advisory to avoid non-essential travel or all travel must be issued. This advisory must have been issued after the purchase of your trip and insurance policy, including Trip Cancellation or Interruption coverage.
We encourage you to follow government advisory updates as the situation develops quickly, and to contact our Customer Relations Centre (1-888-822-5383) if you have any questions. As always, we will support you and recommend that you remain vigilant.

Emergency Medical Care will cover you in the event of a sudden illness or accident during your trip, provided it is not a pre-existing condition. However, you should know that this coverage excludes expenses related to war, revolt, revolution, riots, or insurrections.
Additionally, medical care in a war zone can be extremely difficult to obtain.
Please contact Blue Cross Travel Assistance if you need medical assistance in an emergency or if you have any questions.
